Thrive!

We all get to choose how we want to live. However, some things happen in life that we did not choose, but we have to live with them, just the same. Thrive or survive is a matter of choice. We can choose to live weakened by our challenges, or empowered by them. To live empowered by challenges is not in removing them, but in the way, we consistently choose to live in spite of our difficulties. How? Here is a tip to help 1. Look at the things that break your heart and see if there is some humor or inspiration to be found.

A few years ago, my mother passed away, and it broke and still breaks my heart. So in this situation, something has happened that I cannot change. Although I cannot change what has happened, I/we can do something about how I/we choose to live with the aftermath. I often reflect on the things my mother said and did that made me laugh or her words of inspiration.

So you see, the difficulty did not change, but how I handle the challenge empowers me to laugh when I could cry, enables me to be inspired when I could feel discouraged. It is not the “what” we live with; it is the “how” we live with the “what” that can make all the difference. The “how” is what Maya Angelou says in her quote, make your mission about thriving no matter the circumstance. In other words, make thriving, you’re “how” no matter the “what.”

A Mindset Is The Key To Thriving

To thrive ought to be our mission in life. All of us will have conditions that are not the best at some point. There is absolutely nothing we can do to mitigate that truth. The truth here is that thriving is not about conditions, but a mindset. What would take to have a weed-like mindset? If you ever spent some time in the garden or in the yard, you will discover that weeds are relentless. A weed can thrive in the worst of growing environments. Weeds find a way to grow and thrive. You can pluck them up by the root; you can spray them with weed killer, you can pull up the dirt and put down concrete and weeds will still grow. We can have the type of mindset that says, ” no matter what happens, this is an opportunity for me to thrive!” In other words, to thrive has nothing to do with circumstance; it is a mindset.
